College of Health and Social Services Cassandra-Cowman

The Outstanding Bachelor of Social Work Graduate Award is granted every year to a graduating Bachelor’s in Social Work student who demonstrates outstanding scholarship in the undergraduate program. This years’ award recipient is Lori Derr. In addition to her amazing leadership as the President of Phi Alpha, the social work honor society, Lori is also spearheading the first Food Recovery Network in the state of New Mexico. These Networks have been established all over the United States but this will be the first one in our state. Lori has partnered with Sodexo through Taos Restaurant to recover food items to be distributed to El Caldito Food Kitchen.

The Outstanding Master of Social Work Graduate Award is awarded annually to a graduating Masters in Social Work student who has demonstrated academic excellence and who serves the mission and purpose of the school of social work and the NMSU community. The 2015 recipient is Cassandra Cowman, Vice-President of the Graduate Student Social Work Association. Cassandra is also an active volunteer in our community and volunteered during the summer of 2014 for Camp New Amigos which is a week-long camp for children with autism.
