The CHSS Student Ambassadors at New Mexico State University are an elite group of students who serve as liaisons to the NMSU campus and Las Cruces community. They are considered the face, hands and feet of the College. The students involved in this program come from our health-related majors including Nursing, Public Health and Social Work. This program is designed to further develop this select group of students’ abilities as leaders, mentors, philanthropists and public servants as they engage in the life of our College, campus, city and state.
For more information or to inquire about the application process, please contact Sarah Baker, Student Ambassador Advisor, at email@example.com or 575-646-4691.
Hi, I’m Tessa Drinkard. I am a level-two student in the nursing program. I am a mother, wife, and a leader for many of our Health and Social Services student organizations. I aspire to receive a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree and provide medical services to my community! I love learning and meeting new people, so if you see me around don’t be afraid to say hi- I’d like to meet you too!
Hi there! My name is Jennifer Kitcey… please, call me Jen. I am a senior in the social work program and I plan to pursue a master’s degree immediately after graduation. I have a special place in my heart for veterans, but I will probably end up working in hospice… with the angels. I am a single mom of two terrific boys and they are my everything. As a woman with a lot of life experience, I hope to bring a different perspective to the CHSS Student Ambassador program while also learning as much as I can from my peers and advisor.
Hello! I am Gabriella Reinhardt, an eighth-semester nursing student with a minor in biology. I am from the “City Different”–Santa Fe, NM, and will be moving to a different city after graduation. I figure it is always best to “aim high”, so I aspire to be an Air Force flight nurse and continue on to become a Nurse Anesthetist—working to heal the wounded. When I am not studying or ROTC-ing, I enjoy lifting, reading, and traveling.
Hello, my name is April Tena. I am a junior in the social work program and also pursuing a minor in psychology. I was born in El Paso, TX but raised in Mesquite, NM. I plan to work in child welfare when I graduate, and in the future, build my own foster home. I love working with children— I believe they are the light of the world.
Hi there! My name is Jessie Velasco and I am a senior here at NMSU majoring in nursing and pursuing minors in Spanish and ethics. I am currently a level-three nursing student. I was the secretary for the CHSS Student Ambassador program last year, and I am so excited to serve as president this year and work with another group of lovely individuals. Along with being a CHSS Student Ambassador, I am a tutor for the NMSU Campus Tutoring Service and secretary of the Student Nurses Association. Although I am originally from the Albuquerque area, I promise my heart belongs to the Aggies. When I’m not memorizing the side effects of penicillin or examining strangers’ veins, I enjoy staying hydrated with coffee, cooking, reading, and doing anything outdoors. I am getting married this summer, and after I graduate, I plan to pursue nurse-midwifery.
Hello! My name is Miranda Wood and I was born and raised here in Las Cruces. I am starting my senior year in the social work program and pursuing a minor in psychology. I aspire to join the Americorps National Civilian Community Corps (NCCC) after graduation to prepare for my application to the Peace Corps. I have a passion for people, social issues, and advocacy. My hobbies are Do-It-Yourself crafting and reading anything I can get my hands on.
